Session Presenter - Gladys Smith
Gladys Smith is the Assistant Director of the Counseling & Life Development and Alcohol and other Drug Education Program at Webster University in St. Louis, MO. Gladys is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Advanced Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), Master Addictions Counselor (MAC), Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHM), and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) in addition to being Board Certified in Trauma Counseling (BCTC) and a Sexual Assault Advocate. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Health Care Management from Southern Illinois University, her Master's degree in Health Science from Washington University, St. Louis and her M.Ed in Counseling from the University of Missouri, St. Louis.
Prior to coming to Webster University, Gladys worked in substance abuse treatment centers and psychiatric hospitals. She served for 20 years in the United States Navy as a medic/Hospital Corpsman and Substance abuse counselor in: Subic Bay, Philippines; Keflavic, Iceland; Guam, Hong Kong, Scotland and throughout the United States. She is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority, the Coalition of 100 Black Women, Chi Sigma Iota, the American Business Women's Association and is an instructor for the American Red Cross, American Lung Association and American Heart Association. Gladys also serves as the staff advisor for Peer Education Zeitgeist (PEZ), a student organization promoting Wellness, Alcohol and Other Drug education and prevention and responsible lifestyle choices. Additionally Gladys is a train- the- trainer for the Missouri Substance Abuse Certification Board, as well a certified supervisor for Missouri Addictions Counselors and Missouri Licensed professional Counselors. She also serves as a volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Services.
