Bystander Skills - Campus Outreach Services

Would you interject if you saw someone kicking a dog or using the word “gay” as a slur? Personal decisions to intervene or stand by in harmful encounters can critically impact probability of additional damage.

COS engages participants in dialogue with case studies to reveal underlying assumptions about how and when to intervene. Our first-hand experiences are woven with relevant situations to facilitate leadership development.

Know-hows of going from bystander to upstander.
What stops you from intervening and why.
Options for intervention in a variety of situations.

Analyze:

What should be recognized as “harmful”.
How to create a community of respect.
Personal strengths and weaknesses & knowing when to ask for help.
