Val Tovar
Sexual Assault Prevention Coordinator, American University

Valerie (“Val”) Tovar joined AU in April 2019. She is originally from Los Angeles, California and calls DC home. She holds Masters in Forensic Psychology and a Bachelors in Psychology. She is passionate about developing new ways to provide prevention education for sexual and dating violence to specific communities, especially for LGBTQ+ folx and people of color. Val is dedicated to advocating for student’s needs and supporting them through their journey. Prior to AU she worked for the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), where she oversaw their national affiliate network. When she is not at AU, you can find her in DC at her favorite coffee place, walking the monuments at dusk, supporting causes she cares about, or relaxing with her two cats.
